The Kaaba on your screen

How to watch Makkah live, from the official source

One official broadcaster, many copies. Here is how to find the real stream, and what to keep in mind while you watch.

The official way to watch Makkah live

One broadcaster, day and night. The live picture from the mosque around the Kaaba comes from the Saudi Broadcasting Authority, on its Quran channel (Saudi Quran TV, the Al-Quran Al-Kareem channel). It shows the Kaaba around the clock, with the adhan, the prayers and the recitation as they happen. It goes out on satellite and on the authority’s own streaming services: search for the channel by its name.

Many people give a little every week: Friday giving on DonateOpenly is shown in the open.

How to spot a re-upload

Many “live” videos are copies. Before you settle in, check that:

  • the broadcaster’s own name and logo are on the picture;
  • the channel has been broadcasting for years, not days;
  • nothing is laid over the picture, and nobody asks you for money;
  • the scene is not one clip on a loop: daylight or darkness should match the time in Makkah now.

A stream that fails any of these is somebody else’s copy.

Watching respectfully

A reminder, not a congregation. Many people keep the Kaaba on a screen at home for its recitation and its calm. If you watch during a prayer, it is a reminder, not a congregation to follow: pray your own prayer at your own time where you are. When you share clips, share them from the official broadcast and with their context.

Why there is no player on this page

We would rather point than guess. An embedded stream would have to come from a channel address we can vouch for, and we could not confirm the official one beyond doubt. A copy is exactly what this page warns against, so the clock and the times are ours, and the picture stays with its broadcaster.

The mosque in Madinah

The Prophet’s mosque has a channel of its own. The same authority broadcasts Masjid an-Nabawi live on a second channel (Sahih al-Bukhari 1189 names it among the three mosques people travel to). For the time, the prayer times and the etiquette there, see our sister site Madinah Live.
